Family and Community Support Services Inc (FACSS) provides evidence-based training and consultation that targets specifics needs of the individual, families and communities. To partner with private and public organizations to identify and develop strategies to meet needs.
We are a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering individuals, families and communities through community initiatives, education, and awareness. Our goal is to build and sustain vibrant communities whereby individuals are healthy, successful, and engaged. We value and endorse the social and emotional well-being of participants.
We are interested in
1) Reducing death by suicide by training participants as QPR "gatekeepers";
2) Reduce the risk of complicated grief by providing education and awareness to homicide survivors and
3) Improving social interactions through skill-streaming
We are in the process of identifying grants and other resources to support these training initiatives. We hope that you will consider enrolling in the suicide prevention training (QPR- Question/ Persuade/ Refer)and / or Skill-streaming to maximize and improved communication with others.
According USA Today (2024) more than 50 million Americans are distressed by mental illness. The QPR Institute(2022) revealed that there were 49,476 total deaths by suicide, one (1) every eleven (11) minutes. Death by suicide doubled among US college athletes in the last two (2) years. Moreover, death by suicide has risen among People of Color (USA Today, 2023).
Homicide Survivors are the under acknowleged group of at-risk citizens. Alarming statistics portray death by homicide as a public health concern. One (1) homicide impacts 7 to 10 close family members, friends, co-workers and community. (Armor & Johnson, 2016; Mertzger et al, 2015). The normal grieving process has been altered as a result of experiencing the sudden, violent and meaningless death of a loved one (Mastrocinque et al., 2015)
Currently, there are no trainings scheduled however, trainings flexible and can be scheduled based on having at least 5 participants.
